Instead of bridges, it’s flowers
that are burning, petals
unfurling into mortal, steady-
wilting blossoms of flame,
and as destruction licks its
way up, a bright ribbon spreading
through the tangle of stems, buds
like words waiting to be spoken
flicker to embers and curl
in upon themselves,
once and never again
too pretty to stand
for anything. It’s not bridges
I burn, love,
just flowers.
